COVID-19 VIC: Individuals – Coronavirus (COVID-19) Rent Relief Grant
OverviewThis program aims to provide rent relief payments to Victorians experiencing rental hardship due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It provides a one off grant to help Victorian renters maintain safe, secure and stable accommodation.
The program forms part of the Victorian Government's $1.7 billion economic survival and jobs package, which has been developed to help Victorian businesses and workers survive the devastating impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
From 20 August 2020, the Victorian Government has increased the grant from $2,000 to $3,000. It is paid directly to the tenant’s agent or landlord to contribute to the tenant’s rental payments after a rent reduction agreement has been lodged with Consumer Affairs Victoria.
For individuals who continue to meet the eligibility criteria and have already received a grant of up to $2,000, the Government will automatically calculate whether they are eligible for an additional payment of up to $1,000 and will contact them to confirm their tenancy is still current and eligible. Individuals do not need to take any action.
A total funding pool of $80 million is available.
Eligible applicants must:
- Have registered a revised rental agreement with Consumer Affairs Victoria.
- Have less than $10,000 in savings (excluding superannuation).
- Have an income of less than $1,903 per week before tax.
- Be paying more than 30% of their income in rent.
There are no citizenship or permanent residency requirements for applicants. Applicants that may be eligible include casual workers on holiday and working visas, skilled visas, seasonal workers, New Zealand citizens and all refugee and temporary protection visa holders.
Please refer to the website for the complete eligibility requirements.
